No 34 - Wellness Integration into Daily Life Through Meditative Art-Making

Updated: 4 days ago

For over three decades, daily creativity has been my anchor—a beautiful way to calm my mind, focus, and connect with myself. Art-making is becoming a daily ritual for many, naturally weaving itself into routines to support well-being. It can be there for you too! Simple practices, like painting dots, can be deeply therapeutic and meditative, helping to ground your energy and mindfulness. These gentle, meaningful techniques bring a peaceful, creative touchpoint to each day, nurturing the soul and fostering a sense of inner calm.

Here's what to do:

  • Set aside 45 minutes for this creative wellness exercise.

  • Begin by choosing four earthy colours for example soft greens, ochre, mustard yellow and a rich brown or terracotta.

  • Keep it simple!

First 15 minutes:

  • Lovingly and mindfully mix the paints to create a range of tones and shades.

  • Take your time to enjoy the process of blending and experimenting with colour.

  • Let your intuition guide you in finding the perfect earthy variations of each hue.

Next 30 minutes:

  • Once you’re happy with your colours, begin painting dots.

  • Handmade paper would be perfect OR whatever you have!

  • As you place each dot, align it with your breath.

  • Inhale, pause and prepare then paint the dot on the exhale.

  • This sounds easy but it's not!

  • Try not to rush ahead.

  • Feel free to layer the dots, creating a flowing and meditative rhythm.

  • Let the circle grow as your breath guides you

  • Focus on the mindful repetition of each dot.

  • As you work, allow yourself to feel grounded and present, nurturing your creative spirit with each breath and each dot.

The detail below, taken from a section of my painting, was created using acrylic paint—my preferred medium. I love how acrylics leave behind a subtle raised texture, adding depth and dimension that bring the artwork to life.
