About the Artwork
What if we could glimpse the moment human consciousness first turned towards itself? A moment before doctrine, before organised religion, before the stories through which we would come to understand our existence. This artwork begins with an imagined vintage photograph of the first human awakening. Through an intuitive process of printing onto tissue, layering varnish, applying gouache and painting by hand, the image is transformed into a tactile work that exists somewhere between the photographic and the painterly, the remembered and the imagined.
The result is an exploration of awakening as a deeply human experience: mysterious, intimate and beyond the boundaries of any single spiritual tradition.
Produced as a fine-art giclée edition in A6 and A5 formats, each print is individually hand-embellished, carrying subtle variations that make every piece distinct.
Conceived as a mini blessing, each work offers a small invitation to pause, contemplate and reconnect with the wonder of being alive. A reminder that awakening need not belong to a particular figure, faith or tradition. It may begin in the simplest of moments, when we see ourselves and the world anew.
The Original 'Unseen' Painting
The original measures 18 × 24 cm and is painted on wood panel using layered gouache and tissue paper. The printed tissue forms part of the surface of the work, while layers of hand-painted colour and mark-making transform the original image into a tactile, one-of-a-kind painting.
Limited Edition Giclée Prints
Fine art reproductions of the original are produced to archival standards and individually hand-finished by me in the studio.
