  • Q: How do I get started & work with Joanne?
A: Before booking your first session, you're warmly invited to visit the studio for a relaxed chat over coffee or tea. It’s a chance to get a feel for the space, ask any questions, and see if we’re a good fit for working together. No pressure - just connection, clarity, and a gentle beginning. Joanne will explain how everything works and what to expect. Start a conversation HERE
  • Q: I’m not an “artist.” Can I still join?
A: Absolutely. No fancy skills or experience needed here. Whether you doodle, journal, knit, or paint, if you’re drawn to creative self-expression and inner connection, you belong. This is about you showing up exactly as you are.
  • Q: Is this art therapy?
A: No - Joanne’s work is non-clinical. It’s a contemplative, holistic approach that nurtures wellbeing through mindful art-making, meditation, and creative expression. She doesn’t offer a diagnosis or treatment. If you’re already receiving support through a therapist, doctor, or mental health team, this work can complement that beautifully. For a more structured bridge between creativity and wellbeing, Creative Calm Pathways offers gentle, focused sessions alongside your existing care.
  • Q: How long are sessions?
A: Creative sessions and art classes typically last 2 hours, giving you enough time to settle in, create, reflect and close. If you want a longer experience, Joanne can offer 4- or 5-hour sessions, which are charged accordingly. Flourish Coaching Sessions usually last 1 hour, tailored to your focus and needs, with the same mindful attention to your process.
  • Q: Do I need to be spiritual or Buddhist to participate?
A: Not at all. Joanne welcomes everyone. Whether you’re curious about meditation, nature connection, or simply want a quiet, creative space, you’ll find a warm, inclusive environment. Spirituality here is personal and optional.
  • Q: What if I can’t attend every session?
A: Life happens! Joanne offers flexible scheduling and you can pause or adjust your sessions as needed. It’s about meeting you where you are, not about rigid attendance.
  • Q: How can I purchase Joanne’s original artwork, and how much do they cost?
A: Joanne’s original artworks are available for purchase directly through her studio or by appointment. If you’re interested, Joanne is happy to discuss your preferences, show you available pieces, or create something bespoke just for you. Feel free to get in touch to arrange a viewing or to learn more about pricing.
  • Q: Where is Metro House and how do I get there?
A: Metro House is located in the heart of Chichester, just a short walk from the city centre. If you’re driving, nearby parking is available at the Chichester Festival Theatre. For public transport, the train and bus stations are within easy walking distance. When you arrive, look for the large tower block at the top of North Street with the distinctive mural. The studio is on the 1st floor, accessed through the Freedom Works door. If you need extra help, Joanne is happy to provide directions or meet you outside if you’re unsure.
  • Q: I’m worried I’m not “creative enough.” Is that a dealbreaker?
A: Nope. Creativity lives in all of us—even if you think you can’t draw a stick figure. This work is about unlocking your unique voice and process, not comparing yourself to anyone else. You’ll be amazed what happens when you let go of judgment and just show up. Joanne works with all levels and will guide you every step of the way.
  • Q: Can creativity really improve my mental health? How?
A: Yes. When you create mindfully, you calm your nervous system, shift negative patterns, and open up to self-compassion. It’s not about making “good” art—it’s about expressing what’s inside, releasing stress, and reconnecting with your true self. Joanne’s approach blends meditation and creativity for powerful, lasting wellbeing. She also teaches Fine Art.
  • Q: What kind of results can I expect?
A: Clarity. Confidence. Courage. A deeper connection to your creativity and yourself. Maybe new art skills or a fresh business plan - but mostly, a renewed sense of presence and joy in your creative journey. Plus, a supportive community that sticks with you long-term.
  • Q: Can Joanne create a bespoke package of classes just for me?
A: Yes, absolutely. Every person is different - and so is every session. Whether you're looking for a soulful deep-dive, gentle creative support, or something entirely unique, Joanne can create a one-to-one experience that meets you where you are. Sessions are shaped around your needs, pace, and intentions - always with compassion, presence, and care.
  • Q: I don’t know anything about art materials - does that matter?
A: Not at all. You don’t need to know anything about brushes, paints, or paper to start. Joanne is happy to guide you through what’s what, at your own pace. Whether you’re a total beginner or returning to creativity after a long time, you’ll be fully supported, with no jargon, no pressure and plenty of encouragement.
  • Q: I’m neurodivergent—will I feel comfortable here?
A: 100%. Joanne welcomes all ways of being and thinking. Sessions are gentle, flexible, and sensory-considerate, with space to move at your own pace. You won’t be pressured or put on the spot.
  • Q: Is this spiritual? Do I have to believe in anything?
A: It’s as spiritual as you want it to be. While Joanne’s approach is grounded in Buddhist principles like mindfulness, compassion, and our inner nature, there’s no dogma or pressure. As a Reiki Master (From July 2025) and contemplative artist, she creates a welcoming space for everyone, whatever your background or beliefs. This is about slowing down, tuning in and discovering your own voice through creativity and stillness.
  • Q: How long do I need to commit?
A: Some people dip their toes in with a workshop, class or coaching session. Many stay for years, drawn by the ongoing support and growth in the community. Whatever feels right for you is perfect.
  • Q: What is Joanne's background?
A: Joanne is an award-winning artist, classically trained at The Royal Academy Schools in London - one of the world’s most prestigious art institutions, where she refined her skills as a painter. With nearly four decades of experience, she has developed a deeply contemplative approach to art-making that transcends technique, weaving together meditation, mindfulness, and spiritual practice. Joanne has secured Arts Council funding for her work, underscoring her recognised contribution to the arts. She is also a certified Reiki Master (from July 2025) and a qualified Cacao Ceremony Circle Facilitator, incorporating energy healing and ceremonial practice into her creative sessions to nurture holistic wellbeing. Her extensive training in meditation and mindfulness shapes her distinctive coaching and teaching style. For more information, CV, Awards and Exhibitions click here.
  • Q: How much does it cost?
A: You’ll find suggested prices on the Classes & Pricelist page. Joanne offers a flexible sliding scale to keep things accessible—but please note, this is her professional work, not a free offering. You’re welcome to pay-as-you-go, or book and pay in advance for 6, 9, or 12 months. If finances are tight, you can pay what you can afford, as long as it’s fair and respectful. Honest, open conversations are always welcome. This is about energy exchange, not perfection.
  • Q: What is a Studio Share Residency?
A: The Studio Share Residency is a gentle, non-teaching opportunity for creatives who want to work quietly alongside Joanne in a shared space. It’s designed to support connection, reduce creative isolation, and nurture your practice in a calm, contemplative setting. This is not a drop-in or solo access programme - there’s no lone working or studio keys. All sessions are pre-arranged with Joanne and depend on the rhythm of her own creative practice. It’s about working side-by-side in presence, not performance, with the potential for quiet rituals like tea, meditation, or creative reflection woven in. If you’re looking for a soulful, spacious way to reconnect with your creativity, get in touch to explore whether this residency is the right fit.
  • Q: What makes Shakti Sangha Gatherings special?
A: Imagine a space where creativity flows effortlessly in community, where you’re held in presence and kindness - not judged or pushed. It’s not just an art workshop - it’s a soulful, healing experience with meditation, cacao, and creative connection at its heart.
  • Q: What if I’m overwhelmed or stuck? Will this help?
A: That’s exactly why you’re here. Joanne’s methods help you unplug, breathe, and gently untangle blocks - creative, mental, or emotional. It’s not about pushing harder; it’s about slowing down and trusting your own rhythm.
  • Q: How does Joanne’s approach differ from other art classes or artists coaching programs?
A: It’s heart-centred, grounded, and radically kind. Expect support for your whole self-mind, body, and creative soul-not just a checklist of skills.
  • Q: I’m on a waiting list for therapy - can I book sessions with Joanne as well?
A: Yes, absolutely. Joanne’s creative and contemplative sessions offer gentle, non-clinical support that can complement your therapy journey. Many find it helps with relaxation, self-expression, and emotional clarity while waiting. Feel free to book a session to support your wellbeing during this time.
  • Q: Are you a charity?
A: Not yet, but Joanne is a sole trader and is in the process of applying to become one. In the meantime, she welcomes support from the community to help grow this creative work. If you’re interested in helping or learning more, please get in touch!
